HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) Four years after a state audit found more than $500,000 dollars missing from the Perry County Sheriff's Department tax accounts, a former employee in the department has been arrested.

Records indicate 66-year old Lana Dean was indicted last week for allegedly stealing around $590,000 in franchise taxes from the sheriff's office.

Four years ago, a state audit showed that the money was missing from the tax accounts. the indictment alleges that she used that money for personal use.

Dean was taken to the Kentucky River Regional Jail on Wednesday and was released on a $75,000 surety bond almost immediately.

The previous indictment indicated she would be held on a $75,000 cash bond.

She could face up to 20 years in prison on one count of abuse of the public trust more than $100,000.

She is expected to be arraigned in Perry County Circuit Court on Thursday afternoon. We tried to contact Dean's attorney but our call was not returned.
