HAZARD, Ky (WYMT) - The faces of hunger vary from young to old. One church in Perry County is helping families who otherwise might not have food on the table.
Tuesday, New Hope Church in Hazard distributed food to families with the help of God's Pantry Food Bank.
"The number one thing that I think we can do as a church and as Christians, just like Christ did, is to feed the poor," said volunteer Daniel Thies.
The volunteers with New Hope Church want to make sure families in Perry County do not go hungry.
"At times it can be sad to see people be in that situation and be struggling, but it also brings, I think, fulfillment and joy to know that you are taking part in helping them," said Thies.
This is the first time New Hope has distributed the commodities from God's Pantry Food Bank in this way.
Each family went home with a box full of vegetables, meat and bread, all the essentials to make several meals.
"It helps me until I can get some more," said one participant. "That's all I live on from month to month, except what New Hope Church gives me, and I appreciate it."
