HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) They’ve been celebrating life for 100 years.
“In one way or another, someone is affected by cancer. Through themselves, a parent, a friend or something like that,” Perry County Relay For Life Co-Chair Bob Turner said.
And on Saturday, hundreds turned out to Perry County’s Relay For Life to take on a disease that has touched millions of lives.
“The different events the American Cancer Society has done has helped find cures in certain ways for cancer, advance treatments for cancer, people are living longer and that’s because of the American Cancer Society and people that have participated in events like this,” Turner said.
Wanda Walker, 81, is a 15 year cancer survivor.
“Well, really I wasn’t scared because I’ve trusted in the Lord,” Walker said.
She’s also dealt with cancer in her family as well has her friends around her.
“I can’t imagine what they’re going through because they’ve different kinds than I had,” Walker added.
But she has one word of advice from one survivor to another: “Just turn it over to the Lord and trust in Him, that’s what I did,” Walker said.
And that’s something to live for.
