VIPER, Ky. (WYMT) - A man has been killed in a head-on collision that brought traffic to a halt for hours in Perry County.
The crash around 11:30 Wednesday morning on Kentucky 7 near Viper.
Eyewitnesses say the northbound vehicle lost control, crossed the center line, and slammed into an oncoming pickup truck. They say the driver seemed to be struggling to maintain control of the vehicle.
"He was swerving all over the road, and I kept telling my brother to stay back because I knew something was going to happen," said Mary Shackelford, who saw the wreck.
Perry County Sheriff's Deputies, as well as EMS personnel were called to the wreck. At least one person had to be airlifted from the scene. Police confirm 71-year old Otis Adams of Slemp was killed in the crash. 44-year old Tony Potter of Neon was taken to UK Medical Center. A third victim, who was a passenger in Adams's vehicle, has not been identified.
Folks who saw the crash say they wanted to help.
"It looked bad, real bad, I mean we threw the car in park and jumped out to see if we could help," said Shackelford.
Their hearts go out to the victims.
"I just hope the family, you know, I wish them well and I hope everything is alright."
The accident remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police.
