HAZARD, Ky (WYMT) - A Louisville woman is dead after her car collided head on with another vehicle on Highway 15.
It all happened around 10:00 Monday morning.
That's when Perry County Sheriff's Deputies said they received a call that Mary Walker's car, which was traveling northbound toward Jackson, veered into the southbound lane, striking an SUV.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The county coroner said Walker was 65 years old.
The driver of the SUV was taken to an area hospital with minor injuries, but Deputy Ruey Couch said he is expected to be fine.
"He's okay, I talked to him and he's just getting checked out," said Couch.
First responders are still trying to piece together what caused the accident.
Around the time of the accident, there was heavy rain in the area.
EMT Tony Ford said that might have had something to do with the crash.
"When it rains like this and the amount of rain we have had the last couple of days, the roads do get a little wet and slippery," said Ford.
But deputies are not ready to say the weather was to blame.
"It could have but according to witnesses they did not think there was a lot of water on the road," said Couch.
The accident is still under investigation.
Highway 15 was shut down in both directions for the majority of the morning while crews worked to clear the scene.
The road is now open again.
