PERRY Co., Ky. (WYMT) - The Corner Haven Crisis Center in Perry County operates 24-hours a day to provide assistance and support to those in need.
Shelter directors said they house nearly 26 people and have a waiting list that keeps growing.
With single digit temperatures everyone is tirelessly making room to accommodate their emergency shelter.
Dana Napier said he has lived at the shelter for about four months.
"It's a blessing to me because I had no where else to go," Napier said. "I was at rock bottom."
He said he really depends on the housing.
"It relives a lot of burdens to know that you don't have to get up and leave and go out into the cold until they open the doors back up again," said Napier.
Directors said they have seen as many as 20 additional people needing a hot meal.
"With these colder temperatures now we've gone through our waiting list and seen who's doubled up with somebody and who might be staying out in the cold," said Community Program Director Jennifer Weeber.
Jennifer Weeber said don't hesitate to stop by their door if you need a place to stay.
"If somebody is out cold and they just want to come in and warm up with a cup of coffee, we do that too," Weeber said.
Directors said we can all lend support to those in need by donating cleaning supplies, coffee and non-perishable food items.
Anyone needing help is encouraged to stop by the shelter or give them a call at 606-436-5043.
