Police arrest suspected burglars

HARLAN. Ky (WYMT) - Two people have been arrested in connection with three burglaries in three different counties in just five days.

Police say the pair struck in Harlan County Friday, Perry County on Tuesday and Knox County Wednesday before they were arrested.

Police say after the Harlan County burglary Friday, a witness gave them a vehicle description and a partial license plate number.

After identifying two suspects, they performed a search warrant on their home Wednesday afternoon.

While there state police found several of the stolen items from the Harlan County home, plus items apparently belonging to someone in Perry County.

"While we were inside there we were able to find out that one of our victims was in Perry County contacted them, and they had been broken into the day before," said Shane Jacobs with Kentucky State Police.

34-year-old Billy Bailey and 26-year-old Bridgett Edwards were not at the home at the time police executed the warrant, but police were on the lookout for their car.

Police pulled the pair over in Harlan County Wednesday afternoon and arrested them.

They also found items police believe were stolen from a Knox County home earlier that day.

"We noticed that clothing was taken, jewelry, TVs, several other items like coins, but all three were very similar," said Jacobs.

Police believe they stopped the pair from striking again.

"It was obvious they weren't going to stop, they hit about three counties in five days," said Jacobs.

Police are now in the process of returning the stolen items to the victims.

Both Bailey and Edwards are charged with receiving stolen property and various other charges, and they are being held in the Harlan County Detention Center.
