HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - A stolen item has been found in a Perry County burglary, and police are working with other businesses to find the other items.
Pawn shop owners are working to keep stolen items out of their store.
A missing truck is now back in the Rental Pro garage in Hazard.
“It was unhurt they had stolen the keys but the truck was good so we were lucky to recover it in that kind of condition,” said Tony Eversole with the Perry County Sheriff’s Office.
Police are still working to find the other stolen items, beginning with local pawn shops.
To make sure no stolen item is pawned, businesses check the serial numbers of every item.
Most any item that can be pawned like a gun, computer, or iPod have a serial number and business owners can use those numbers to track down any previous owner.
Police reported that many stolen items can be found in pawn shops.
“We've been working really tight with them on how not to be getting the stolen items, because everybody loses when they buy a stolen item,” said Eversole.
If these items are pawned, owners will try and make sure it does not happen again.
“If anyone does bring in a stolen item, they are no longer allowed to pawn here we lock the customer out,” said Owner of JT’s Gun and Pawn, Jaime Campbell.
Police said they have leads, but are still investigating.
