Students get to dump slime on teacher

ARY, Ky. (WYMT) - Some students in Perry County spent their last friday of the year dumping slime on one of their teachers!

Students at Robinson Elementary School in Perry County were encouraged to read as many pre-approved books they could to earn points for the Accelerated Reader Program.

"I read all the Hunger Games series, which is probably my favorite and I like mysteries and stuff like that. I read a lot of books this year," said Hannah Daniels, a sixth grader.

The top ten students with the most points and top students within each homeroom class received the grand prize of getting to dump slime on a teacher's head.

"Who doesn't want to slime a teacher these days?," said Layne Stacy, an eight grader.

"It's probably the best feeling in the world to slime a librarian. I don't know why it's just the best feeling in the world," said E.J. Fields, a fifth grader.

Douglas Bryant, the librarian who was slimed and also spent the night on the roof to reward the school for meeting their collective reading goal, says he feels great when students are excited about reading.

"To see kids that weren't reading and to see them sitting there reading a book in the morning at lunch, or at breakfast or to see them take it on the bus, it's rewarding," Bryant said.

Some students say that the prize of getting to dump slime on the librarian made more of them want to read.

"Because it's fun to get your librarian with slime and eggs and Jello," said Alyssa Daniels, a sixth grader.

"This year i felt more interested because I knew that if i was in the top ten I would get to slime Mr. Bryant so towards the end of the year I started working really, really hard to get in the top ten," said Hannah Daniels.

School officials say they plan to have this event next year. They hope the students excitement about the event will continue to keep them motivated to read.
