HAZARD, Ky. (WYMT) - A well known Hazard woman who had numerous civic accomplishments and volunteered for many causes has died.
Rayma West died at her home Sunday.
West worked at People's Bank for many years and was also a world traveler.
In 2005, she received the "Woman of the Year" award in Hazard, but just two months after that she suffered a severe stroke that changed her life.
She had to learn how to walk again and was determined to recover in her hometown.
"I realized that this was going to be something that I just had to face and something that was not going to go away so I just made up my mind that whatever needed to be done I would do it. I did not want to leave home after this. I just wanted to be around my family and my friends," West said in a 2006 interview.
Rayma loved the theatre, and was even an extra in the movie "Coal Miner's Daughter," appearing in a scene that was shot in Letcher County in 1979.
West's visitation will be Tuesday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Hazard, where she was a member for 75 years.
The funeral will follow at 1 p.m.
Rayma West was 84.
