PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Officials at Appalachian Wireless are announcing a service upgrade for its customers.
Officials announced Monday that subscribers can now have 4G LTE service.
They say it will speed up data usage on cell phones and tablets that are 4G capable.
They say the heavily populated areas will have coverage first, and they will expand from there.
"I am thrilled to death for what we can do with LTE, and I'm more than thrilled for what the customer will be able to do with LTE," said Gerald Robinette, Appalachian Wireless CEO.
They hope to have the next phase of coverage done by August.
