PIKEVILLE, Ky. - (WKYT) - A British man now admits he traveled to Kentucky to meet a young girl for sex.
Federal investigators say they had been monitoring Solomon Blue Waters internet activity for months, and immediately arrested him last summer when he landed at Blue Grass Airport.
He entered the guilty plea this week in federal court and admitted to engaging in online sexual activity with a minor.
Officials with the U.S. Attorney’s Office say this is the first case they're aware of in the eastern District of Kentucky where a foreign defendant traveled to Kentucky to engage in sexual acts with a minor.
Last year, Waters traveled from England to eastern Kentucky where state police say he planned to meet an underage girl for sex.
“It is incredible that someone would go through such lengths for such an evil purpose,” said Kerry B. Harvey, U.S. Attorney.
When Waters landed at the Bluegrass Airport, federal agents greeted him with handcuffs.
He was arrested for his attempt at child sexual exploitation.
Officials say over a period of time, Waters enticed the girl to send him sexually driven pictures and communicate with him in sexual conversations on the internet.
Waters also pleaded guilty to traveling cross-continent to sexually exploit her, according to the plea agreement.
“The most disturbing thing about this is that the internet was being used to exploit and endanger a child in eastern Kentucky,” Harvey said.
Officials encourage parents to take a hands-on approach with their children's online activities to prevent them from getting into contact with a predator.
Waters is scheduled to be sentenced in Pikeville on September 5th.
The U.S. Attorney's Office and Waters agreed to a sentencing range of 135 and 168 months pending the judge's approval.
