PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT)- In 2012 the general assembly made an adjustment to Kentucky's open records act that allows a private utility company in Pike County to keep their spending a secret.
The Lexington Herald Leader reports the Utility Management Group manages Pike County's water and sewer systems. Before the open records act changed, UMG was required to present their records upon request. However since the change they no longer are required to show their records. Judge-Executive Wayne T. Rutherford says a fiscal court meeting is scheduled May 21st to discuss a possible appeal to the circuit court decision that stated UMG is protected under the open records act.
