Lexington, KY – For the first-time ever, blood donors can prove they bleed blue in Rupp Arena, home of the Wildcats.
Kentucky fans are invited to roll up their sleeves, save a life and attempt a shot in Rupp Arena from noon to 7 p.m. on Monday, January 28.
The Rupp Arena Blood Drive on Monday will kick off the 5th annual Big Blue Slam – Cats versus the Gators blood battle – which runs January 28-February 1.
Besides being able to shoot a basket in Rupp Arena, donors will also receive a Big Blue Slam T-shirt, a commemorative pint glass and a chance to win an entertainment package – 60” Smart TV with Wi-Fi, 3D Blue-ray entertainment center and PlayStation 3.
“We are excited to offer blood donors this fun opportunity. Blood runs blue in Kentucky and we think donors will be excited about the chance to donate in Rupp Arena,” said Kentucky Blood Center (KBC) President and CEO Bill Reed.
“We also appreciate the folks at Rupp Arena for supporting our life-saving mission and allowing us to do this for our donors. It comes at a great time, too, because winter weather can cause blood drive cancellations or difficult driving situations, both of which can really impact the blood supply.”
Bill Owen, Lexington Center Corporation President & CEO said, “We are delighted to be part of the Big Blue Slam and honored to host the blood drive in Rupp Arena. I encourage all of Big Blue Nation to come be a part as well. Thanks KY Blood Center!”
To add to the fun at Rupp, the 1300 WLXG Sports Huddle radio show will broadcast live from 4 to 7 p.m.
Besides Rupp Arena, donors can also give blood during Big Blue Slam week at the following four KBC Donor Centers or at other area blood drives:

3121 Beaumont Centre Circle
