PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - A newly formed nonprofit organization was in Pikeville on Friday.

The Freedom Riders of Kentucky were established earlier this month and on Friday they installed and dedicated a flag pole outside of the Myers Towers housing complex.

Members of the group say they wanted to dedicate it to all veterans and give the veterans that live in Myers Towers a flag as a way of saying thank you for their service.

Richard Gibson, president of Freedom Riders of Kentucky says, "People living here wanted a flag and we all feel that veterans should be able to get pretty much whatever they want, they fought for us, for our country, and we owe it to them."

Funds for the flag pole were raised and collected by AmeriCorp workers at WestCare in Pikeville. The organization made the flag pole possible by holding yard sales and collecting donations from throughout the community.
