Little league football bowl held to benefit cancer research

PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Little League football teams from throughout the Big Sandy Region participated in the 2nd annual 'Cancer Relay For Life Bowl'...also known as the 'Pink Bowl' hosted by Johns Creek Elementary.

Teams took part in games all day Saturday on the pink painted field.

Coaches say since last year's 'Pink Bowl', their players have looked forward to this year's event.

Money raised through the event goes to help cancer research and other programs with the American Cancer Society.

Bridgette Brashear says, "It is a great opportunity for the kids to get out and give back. Also, learn about early detection and awareness and what cancer is....and to remember and honor those that they love who have had cancer."

Organizers say they expect to make around $2,000 at the event.
