Man facing charges after Pike Co. Judicial Center evacuated

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - There was a brief scare at the Pike County Judicial Center on Wednesday afternoon.

Sheriff's deputies say, Richard Maynard, walked out of a courtroom on the second floor and pulled the the fire alarm.

The entire building was evacuated for about 15 to 20 minutes and Maynard was cited for disorderly conduct.

At Maynard's arraignment on Thursday, Judge Kelsey Friend said, "Due to the nature of these charges which directly affect the people of this county and the security and safety of this courthouse, you are scheduled for a pretrial conference on February 17th." He added, "At that hearing you and your attorney will appear in this court and answer to these charges. Basically, whether you attempted to incite riot on the people of this county intentionally....because this is a willful crime, sir."

Maynard entered a not guilty plea on Thursday.

After his arraignment, Maynard was arrested on outstanding warrants and taken to the Pike County Detention Center.
