Mining job fair held in Pikeville

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - A job fair for unemployed miners was held on Tuesday in Pikeville.

GMS Mine Repair and Maintenance officials were at Big Sandy Community and Technical College to recruit underground miners.

The company has various positions available across the country. Officials say if miners are willing to relocate, they want to put them back to work.

Derek Jackson says, "We know there are thousands of laid off miners in Eastern Kentucky and we know that there are some really high quality folks that are wanting to get back to work. We do have a lot of positions we are looking to fill and we are looking for top notch talent...we know that talent is exists in Eastern Kentucky."
