Mountain Cold Case: Sandy Hess 2005

PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - What happened to Sandy Hess? The Pike County woman was last seen in 2005 and nearly a decade later her family is still searching for answers.

"No answers at all...no answers what so ever," says her sister, Catherine Thacker.

Sandy Hess was last seen alive in January 2005 in the Jonican community, fast forward four years later to April of 2009 when one of Hess's sisters and brother-in-law made a grim discovery.

"He stepped over top of my sister's head and then they searched and found the remains to it...found her head, her chin, and one of her legs," explains Thacker.

The remains found within miles from where the family lives along Ridge Line Road.

"It scared my brother and sister to death," says Thacker.

To this day, where the rest of her remains are and what exactly happened to Hess....is a mystery.

"They knew what they was doing. They put the parts needed to tell what happened over the bank in some brush and they done something else with the other parts. They can do what ever they want to with the parts...the Lord knows what happened and our mom is with her right now."

Thacker says their sister was very sick with Lupus but finding her scattered remains solidifies their belief that someone killed her.

"Our sister was murdered, and they know who they are. They may not pay here, but they will pay one day later down the road," says Thacker.

Believing she was murdered but not knowing why or how...while knowing she is dead, Thacker says is a living nightmare for the family

"We do not care if they get put in jail, we do not care what happens there....we want to put our sister to rest, all of her remains," pleads Thacker.

Hess has a twin brother and family members say the night they believe their sister was killed, he felt an intense pain like someone was breaking his neck.
