Officials break ground on Pike Co. Scholar House

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - Officials broke ground on the long-awaited Scholar House in Pike County Monday.

The Scholar House will be a 48 unit multi-family housing unit with on-site child care facilities.

It is designed to help provide an opportunity for single parents to get a college education.

Officials say they are excited to get the project going.

"The statistics will show the success rate of those that enter into these homes, that are able to graduate with an education, whose income level is higher, who has the opportunity to exceed more rapidly, can make an investment back into the community is great," said Pikeville City Manager Donovan Blackburn.

Construction of the Scholar House is expected to be completed next year.
