PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - Folks were out at Elk Run Golf Course in Pike County on Friday to show their support for PRIDE.
PRIDE's co-founder, Congressman Hal Rogers, was on hand for the golf scramble. The event was held to raise money for the Pike County Environmental Education Program.
Congressman Rogers says since federal dollars aren't as plentiful as they used to be, fundraisers like this are imperative to the work the organization does to clean up the area and educate folks about the environment.
"We have picked up hundreds of tons of trash off the highways, cleaning up the streams, closing old dumps that have been here 100 years...it is an amazing story. They've picked up around one million tires for example. That is the kind of thing that has been going on by volunteers," explains Rogers.
Event organizers say more than 30 golfers participated in this year's event.
