PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - It is normally a place of worship, but a few days ago it became the scene of a crime.
The pastor at the Truth Tabernacle Apostolic Church in Pike County says someone stole thousands of dollars worth of items from the church.
Now he is offering a reward for information about the theft.
The pastor says the thieves came in the back door but they ransacked the entire church stealing nearly $10,000 worth of items.
It was a call he never expected and did not want to hear.
"He called me and said we'd been hit and it was just ransacked," said Pastor Roger Egnor.
Someone had broken into Truth Tabernacle Apostolic Church and stripped the building of almost all the sound equipment.
"I'm devastated. I don't understand why anybody would want to steal from a church," said Pastor Egnor.
They also took an office computer, tools and instruments al totaling nearly $10,000.
"They left stuff at the back door. They either got scared or they was out of room. That's how much stuff they took," said Pastor Egnor.
Pastor Egnor says he believes someone had to see something because the street and parking lot are well lit, so he is offering a $1,000 reward for anything that leads to an arrest.
"I told my wife that if they did catch them I was going to go to the hearing and just tell the judge don't put them in jail just sentence them to me. Let them come to church. Let me preach to them awhile," he said.
He says while he is able to forgive the thieves, he just wants to find what belongs to the church.
If you have any information about this theft you should contact Kentucky State Police. All tips can remain anonymous.
Pastor Egnor says there is a silver lining.
Other churches have offered to donate sound equipment and instruments to help replace what was stolen.
