PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - High school students in Pike County are making sure children of laid of coal miners have toys this Christmas.
The Pike County Youth Leadership Council, made up of students from all six high schools in Pike County, organized a toy giveaway on Saturday in Pikeville.
Dalton Hatfield says, "We all know what it is like to be a kid on Christmas morning and living in Eastern Kentucky we know coal is the life blood of this region. Everyone is impacted by the EPA regulations especially the men who work hard every day in the coal mines."
The students raised more than $1,200 worth of toys and say about three hundred folks came to the giveaway.
