Still no answers in Pike County cold case

KIMPER, Ky. (WYMT) - A 12 year old cold case leaves unanswered questions about a Pike County man's death, and his parents say they are still looking for answers.

For Ember and Sandra Adkins, the pain of losing their son is as strong today as it was 12 years ago.

"It's something that you don't forget; it don't ever leave your mind. It's like a broken wheel; that part of you is always missing," said Mrs. Adkins.

Then-26 year old Kevin Adkins was last seen October 9th, 2000. His body was found two days later in a field about three miles from his home. Police say he was shot in the head.

Kevin's parents say they don't understand how someone could do such a thing to their son.

"There's a killer walking free somewhere - a murderer - because when you walk right up in behind somebody and done like that, that could happen to your kid," said Mr. Adkins.

Twelve years later, the Adkins's say they just want their son's killer brought to justice.

"We don't want nothing that's wrong, we just want the people that done this to answer for it," said Mr. Adkins.

While nothing can bring their son back, the Adkins's say they take comfort in knowing Kevin is in a better place.

"They can destroy the body but they can't take the soul. It's already been given to the good man above," said Mr. Adkins.

They say they are still holding on to hope that their son's case will be solved.

Police say the case is still under investigation. Anyone with information should contact Kentucky State Police.
