PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - The first ever Appalachian Institute of Music Summer Academy is taking place this week at Pikeville High School.
Students from throughout the region are participating in the camp that includes a series of classes, small and large ensemble rehearsal, and private lessons.
The academy is part of The Country Music HIghway Arts, Inc. and is led by directors from area schools.
Pikeville High School Band Director Scott Bersaglia says, "Being somewhat sequestered geographically we felt it was important to try to pull our resources together to provide an academy close to home where they would not have to pay a very expensive tuition."
Participants will put on a concert Friday night beginning at five o'clock in the Pikeville High School auditorium.
