PIKE COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - A Pike County woman was arrested after police say she inhaled a cleaning product and drove into a subway restaurant.

Broken glass, insulation and dangling signs are almost all that is left of the Subway restaurant in Shelby Valley.

"It was just a tragic scene. I have never ever in my life seen something like this," said Subway employee Stacia Newsome.

Police say 55-year-old Toma Williamson was driving down U.S. 23 Saturday when she ran off the road and into the side of the building.

"A big commotion, like a big boom, and the only thing they could see was like a little smoke," said Newsome.

Police say she told them she had been inhaling a product used for cleaning keyboards.

"Folks do this and it actually causes them to receive a high, and the high is similar to an alcohol high," said Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Thomas Gearheart.

Employees say it is not uncommon for people to drive dangerously in that area.

"We flat out said one of these days it's going to happen. Somebody's going to be crazy enough, and they're going to pull into this place. And it finally happened," said Newsome.

The building's owner says it could take more than one month to get the restaurant back open. Employees say they are glad no one was seriously injured, but it has left many of them wondering how they are going to get through the holidays.

"I guess we just take it one day at a time. We're going to start today until it gets finished and come in and clean up and get it done,"
said Newsome.

Williamson was arrested and charged DUI, failure to wear a seatbelt, no operator's license and no insurance.

Williamson and two employees were treated for minor injuries.
