Rocket Cutting Machine moving to Blue Grass Army Depot

It's being called a milestone in efforts to destroy chemical weapons at the Blue Grass Army Depot near Richmond.

Depot officials say the project's first nerve agent disassembly machine, called the Rocket Cutting Machine, is scheduled to arrive later this month.

The depot says the machine will safely separate the rocket motor from the warhead section in weapons.

The machine will be moved from Washington state, where it was made, to Madison County.

The machine is the seventh of 11 large pieces of equipment specifically designed, fabricated, and successfully tested as components of the depot's neutralization followed by supercritical water oxidation process. The remaining four are at different stages of fabrication or testing at facilities in Pasco, Wash. and San Diego, Calif.
