RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) - More than two dozen law enforcement officers from across Kentucky have just completed basic training at the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training in Richmond.

The officers were trained in homeland security, law offenses and procedures, vehicle operations, firearms and other topics.

Kentucky law enforcement officers who have to comply with the 1998 professional standards act must go through basic training.

The Department of Criminal Justice Training provides the training for city and county police officers, sheriff's deputies, university police, airport police and others.

The department is a state agency located on Eastern Kentucky University's campus.

The class included 26 officers from 25 agencies. The program included 18 weeks of training, consisting of nearly 770 hours of recruit-level-officer academy instruction.
