Madison County Schools reached goal for Haiti relief fund

Re: Madison County Schools reached goal for Haiti relief fund

RICHMOND – Madison County Schools set a lofty goal for raising funds for disaster relief in Haiti. That $10,000 mark was reached today – a full 10 days before the February 12 deadline.

As of today, Madison County Schools and the Madison County community have helped raise $10,679.33 for the Haiti relief effort.

“Kids and adults are working together to make a difference,” said B. Michael Caudill Middle School Principal Ken Bicknell. “We still have over a week to make this grow for the people of Haiti.”

Reaching that goal for the district was due in part to students like Shannon Johnson Elementary student Clay Cornett. Clay donated his birthday money – given to him by Nana and Poppy – to the orphanage in Haiti. Clay wanted to give his $100 to help the boys and girls with the supplies they need after the earthquake.

Clay is just one example of how people across Madison County have embraced the idea of making a difference for the people in Haiti. All schools in the district have participated in fund raising efforts.

Schools activities included the following:
• Shannon Johnson Elementary – Hawks for Haiti
• Silver Creek Elementary – Hearts for Haiti
• Kit Carson Elementary – Change for Change: Give Heart for Haiti
• Waco Elementary – Haiti Help Dollar Drive
• Glenn Marshall Elementary – Links of Love
• White Hall Elementary – Teacher/Student Challenge
• Kirksville Elementary – Help for Haiti
• Mayfield Elementary – Change drive and pin sale
• B. Michael Caudill Middle – Spartans Helping Haiti
• Clark-Moores Middle – Student Council Collections
• Madison Middle – Chance for Change
• Foley Middle – Dress Down Day
• Madison Central High – collections for Doctors Without Borders
• Madison Southern High – Hats for Haiti

Fund raising efforts will wrap up on Feb. 12, when the total raised will be announced. If you are interested in making a donation, please call any school office or the Madison County Board of Education.
