EKU Coach fights cancer

Recently, we were informed that our beloved Coach Tim Cahill had been diagnosed with cancer. He coaches Model Swimming and Diving, Arlington Alligators, & Colonel Aquatics (ColA), as well as being an instructor of both competitive swim classes through EKU Community Education and Health Promotion at EKU. In a way to honor Coach, current and former swimmers, parents and lifelong friends, are joining together as “Team Cahill” to help save lives by taking part in the American Cancer Society Relay For Life and we are asking for your support.

The American Cancer Society Relay for Life is a life-changing event that gives people in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At this year’s Madison County Relay, teams of people will camp out at Michael Caudill Middle School and take turns walking or running around the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, relays are overnight events.

In addition to helping people celebrate, remember, and fight back, Relay For Life also helps raise much needed funds and awareness to help the American Cancer Society save lives from cancer.

Please support us in our efforts by visiting our team web page to make a secure, tax-deductible online donation.

Every donation really does make a difference. We know that times are tighter than normal for many of us, but any amount you can give truly can help save lives.

With your support, the American Cancer Society can:

• Help people stay well by helping them take steps to prevent cancer or detect it early, when it’s most treatable

• Help people get well by being in their corner around the clock to guide them through every step of their cancer experience

• Find cures by funding groundbreaking research that helps us understand cancer’s causes, determine how best to prevent it, and discover new ways to cure it

• Fight back by working with lawmakers to pass laws to help fight cancer and rally communities worldwide to join the fight

As well as monetary online donations we are also selling luminaries. A luminary is a paper bag filled with sand and a candle, which are all lighted during a Luminary Ceremony the night of the Relay. They can be “In Memory”, “In Hope”, or “In Honor” of someone. Each bag is marked with the name of the individual being honored i.e. “In hope of Tim Cahill”. Each luminary sells for $5 using the order form attached and returned by mail or $10 for on-line orders. Multiple luminaries can be purchased for each individual. We all know family members and friends who have been affected by cancer. What a wonderful way to honor these people as well as Coach Cahill and support Team Cahill during Relay for Life.

Coach Cahill is the kind of role model a parent only dreams about. He has made such a difference in the lives of so many people. It is an honor to be able to give back to him a small amount of what he has given and to honor him by participating in Relay For Life. In the words of Coach “Attitude is Everything”.

Each of us has our own reasons for caring about the fight against cancer. Whatever your reasons, we hope you’ll choose to make a difference by making a donation online to support our efforts and Coach Cahill.

To donate and to purchase luminaries on-line with your credit card please go to www.RelayForLife.org/madisonky and click on Donate Here under Three Ways to Donate. Click Search for a Team then type in Team Cahill. Click on “Team Cahill” and follow the instructions.
