The city of Richmond has voted to crack down on parking ticket offenders who choose to not pay their fines.

"We've had an issue for quite some time now where people get tickets and choose not to pay them. Well, if they choose not to pay them, they are going to pay the price."

The decision to make the ordinance stiffer was voted on at the city commission meeting Tuesday night. "If you have fines up to a hundred dollars, now law enforcement can tow that vehicle until the fine is paid."

Residences in Richmond agree with the stricter law. They say the parking situation is horrible and that violators make the situation worse.

"If we are going to write ordinances and laws we have to have an enforcement tool, that's why we did this towing bill. It's the only tool we can get to get people to pay their fine and most people when they get their car towed will pay their fine."

The new law goes into effect immediately.
