MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) – Traffic on Interstate 75 is moving again, after a crash forced officials to shut down the northbound lanes near Berea in Madison County.
The crash happened about 8:15 p.m Sunday night in the northbound lanes of I-75 near mile marker 78.
Firefighters tell us the crash involved two tractor trailers, and happened when one of the semi’s slowed down and was rear ended by the second truck.
Emergency crews tell us the second truck was hauling hydrated alumina, a non-hazardous chemical, which spilled onto all three northbound lanes. Neither of the drivers were seriously hurt.
Several drivers called or emailed our newsroom to ask for updates, after saying they had sat motionless in bumper to bumper traffic for four hours.
Officials eventually set up a detour at mile marker 77, and began detouring traffic to US 25.
The wreck was cleaned up and traffic moving normal early Monday morning.
