Crash victim crawls up embankment for help

State Police say it took a man 9 hours to crawl for help after wrecking his SUV Thursday night. It ended up about 100 feet away from Hammonds Fork Road in rural Rockcastle County.

Rescue crews say 31-year-old James Harrison of McKee climbed all the way up to the road, where he was picked up by a passerby around 8am Friday. Officials say Harrison was stuck down the ravine, with his wrecked SUV, since the crash at 11pm.

Firefighters from Rockcastle County say the stretch of road is dangerous, especially with a wet surface, but they're not sure if that played a part in the accident. Emergency responders say Harrison is lucky to be alive.

At last check Harrison is in fair condition at UK Hospital, even though he's suffered several broken bones and internal injuries.
