RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - This winter is expected to cost Madison County $350,000 in salt usage. The county's annual budget is $200,000. Leaders plan to use reserve funds to make up the difference. The rest of the budget won't be impacted.

Before the winter storm, the county used 5,500 tons of salt. Leaving about 1,500 tons of salt in the county's barn. That's enough to handle one more round of snow this winter.

Judge-Executive Kent Clark says the county always plans for the worst. He says that paid off this winter.

"We are very lucky because we have the resource to do that. There are a lot of counties that don't have those resources," said Clark.

The road department has 28 trucks. Clark says the county may need to buy new trucks after this winter.
