27-year-old Matthew Denholm pleaded not guilty to fleeing and evading police, tampering with physical evidence and wanton endangerment in connection to the chase he led Jeffersontown Police on hours after he's accused of shooting two men in Berea.
While Denholm hasn't faced charges in the shooting of Kevin Price or the murder of Zachary Flower, friends of flower say that moment in court cant come soon enough.
"It's unbelievable-- the kind of person he is and the way he took care of people... It doesn't make sense," explained John Kwiek, a dear friend of Flower's.
John Kweik describes his relationship with Flower as brotherly. The two met at UK and joined the Army National Guard after years of ROTC. Kwiek says his former roommate volunteered to go to Iraq, and always hoped to make a difference in the lives of other.
"He'd go out of his way to make people happy."
Including Kwiek, who says he could always count on the aspiring musician for a laugh or spontaneous trip.
"We looked at each other and said 'I don't feel like going to class today,'" Kwiek said laughing. "He said... 'Wanna go to Disney world?' I said yeah, so we hopped in the car and headed south," Kwiek explained.
Flower, raised in Ohio, leaves behind a large family including 10 siblings---9 of whom were adopted. The majority of his family now lives in Virginia.
"He was happiest when he was talking about his family," Kwiek says.
Flower also loved music and his rap group, Strange Tang. Kwiek says Flower was planning a move to either Florida or Detroit to pursue music.
"He was the most dedicated person I ever knew; whether it was family, friends or his music. He was on the right path to make it."
Family members hope folks donate to Toys for Tots or God's Pantry in Zach Flower's honor. Funeral arrangements are pending.
