A tough loss for a central Kentucky family, just four days before Christmas.
A fire destroyed their home, at the intersection of U.S. 421 and Highway 1016 in Madison County Tuesday morning.
By the time firefighters arrived, they say it was too late to save the home.
"House was fully involved," Berea Fire Lt. Jake Lake said. "We got a real good knock down on it."
No one was inside the home at the time of the fire.
Firefighters say they were grateful the conditions were more manageable that they could have been.
"It's not as cold as it has been the last couple of weeks, so we're doing really well right now," Lake said.
In areas with limited access to hydrants, water must be shuttled in by tankers, and firefighters say they realize colder weather will only present more challenges.
No word yet on what caused the fire.
