MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - The friend of a man killed by lightning is talking about how he'll be remembered.
Two men were killed Wednesday in Madison County, when lightning hit the barn that they were working in. The barn wasn't damaged, but 29-year-old Bobby Maggard and 25-year-old Scottie Elam died.
A friend of Bobby Maggard said Thursday afternoon he still couldn't believe what happened along the Garrad County and Madison County line where Maggard and another man were killed.
Harland Moon is a friend of Maggard. He says, "It makes you think. You never know when it's going to be your time. Live life to the fullest each day."
He says Maggard was a big Kentucky fan.
Moon says, "UK! He was a huge UK sports fan. That's why I've got my shirt on."
He says UK wasn't Maggard's main focus though. He says Maggard's main focus was his young children.
"He's just the kind of person that would do anything for anybody, especially his children. Him and his kids are being a very loving father. It's something I will always respect because I love my kids to death too, and anyone that's a good father has a special place in my heart."
So far, WKYT hasn't received any information on funeral arrangements for Maggard or Elam.
Three other people were injured. The coroner says it appears the lightning strike electrically charged the whole barn and that's how all five people were hit.
