Friends of the two victims in a shooting have started a makeshift memorial at the bottom of the stairs of an apartment on Chestnut Street in Berea.

Terra Cash and Rae Hartley brought flowers to the crime scene. They can't believe their friend, 25-year-old Zachary Flower, was murdered in his home and his roommate, who they identify as Kevin Price, hospitalized after he was shot in the abdomen. A friend to them all, 27-year-old Matthew Denholm, was the sole suspect. He was caught by Jeffersontown Police Officers following a statewide manhunt.

"Just really surprising because no one expects this in Berea," explained Terra Cash, who knew all three involved casually.

Her friend, Rae Hartley chimed in, "Finding out Flower was dead and Price is in the hospital? Ridiculous."

Police say they three got into an argument late last night and say Denholm had been using racial slurs at a nearby restaurant. After the fight, police believe the former Berea safety officer came back to the apartment nestled above Berea College offices and made his point heard.

"He's safety officer!  I can't believe he snapped like that," Terra Cash exclaimed.

"I just can't wrap my head around it. Flower was an amazing person," Rae Hartley said.

Berea College Officials say Denholm was employed as a safety officer from February 2010 until March 2011. None involved in the shooting were Berea College Students.
