Group recommends fairness ordinance in Berea

BEREA, Ky. (WKYT) - The Berea Human Rights Commission is expected to recommend passage of an anti-discrimination Fairness ordinance to Berea's mayor and city council.

Bereans for Fairness has been pushing for a local ordinance since early 2011. In September of that year, city officials voted to re-establish its dormant Human Rights Commission and charged them with studying the need for a local law.

Berea could become the sixth Kentucky city to extend discrimination protections to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals, joining Covington, Frankfort, Lexington, Louisville, and Vicco. City officials in Morehead have already requested a similar law be drafted for consideration, which could pass before the year's end.

Tuesday night's meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. at the Police and Municipal Building on Chestnut Street.
