Jessamine County soldier awarded Bronze Star

RICHMOND, Ky. (AP) - A National Guard soldier from central
Kentucky has been presented with a Bronze Star for his service in
Afghanistan.
U.S. Rep. Ben Chandler says he presented the honor over the
weekend to Sgt. 1st Class Timothy McClish of Jessamine County at a
ceremony in Richmond.
A statement from Chandler's office says McClish heroically
distinguished himself during a four-hour long battle in May 2006.
As McClish and his unit approached a village, they began to take
heavy fire from Taliban forces. Under McClish's supervision, the
unit defeated the Taliban forces and protected residents of the
village, according to the statement.
Chandler says McClish went "above and beyond the call of
duty."
He was surrounded by family, friends and his National Guard
battalion on Saturday as he received the award.
