MADISON COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - A man, wanted in connection to a robbery that happened in Madison County, is now in custody.
Richmond Police arrested Robert C. King, age 27, on Tuesday.
On September 5th, police were called to Walmart in Richmond to investigate a shoplifting complaint. Employees told police that they saw a man pick up a Surefire flashlight, worth $89, and attempt to leave the store without paying. When an employee tried to stop the man, they say the suspect shoved the employee and took off. The suspect got into a waiting vehicle outside, driven by another man.
While the crime was originally called out as a shoplifting, police say the use of force against another person to commit a theft, elevates the crime to robbery.
Police tell WKYT that their follow-up investigation identified King as the suspect in the case.
On Tuesday, King was interviewed at the police station and then charged for Robbery 2nd Degree. He's being held in the Madison County Detention Center.
