RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - A man was shot in the side while out on a stroll with his family. He was only shot by a BB gun and is going to be okay, but police say the situation could have been much worse because of where the shot came from and who the man was with.
A Richmond man is recovering from a BB gunshot wound after being shot at through a window while walking down Big Hill Avenue. Police say he was with his girlfriend, sister, and a 4-day-old baby when it happened.
Police say the man was bleeding from his side but that he will be okay. As for the shooter, police arrested 24-year-old Melissa Nichols and are charging her with assault and three counts of wanton endangerment.
The victim's family says that they know Melissa Nichols and had some problems with her a year ago. But they're shocked she would ever do something like this. People who walk Big Hill Avenue say it's scary someone would do this especially when there's a newborn close by.
Tommy Young lives near the scene and says, "I think about my little girl, you know. I always try to protect her. I walk beside her. I walk next to the road as protection. If anything happened to her that would just hurt my heart."
WKYT tried to interview Nichols from jail, but she denied our request.
