A search of Alexander's Berea apartment resulted in the discovery of $17,000 hidden in his sofa.
"I'm not can make excuses why I did it you know. I messed up and I regret that I did it," said Alexander who talked to WKYT from behind bars at the Madison County Detention Center.
"I'm very sorry, I knew it was wrong and I'm very apologetic."
He claims the victim's son put him up to it.
"He told me how to get in, where the safe was and how to open it without the key."
The recovered money has been returned to the rightful owner, who won the money in a settlement.
Alexander is charged with Burglary 2nd. He will be in court next week.
