We're learning more about a double shooting that left one man dead and another in critical condition.

The men were found Sunday night inside a car off U.S. 25 in Richmond.

Police say they're still trying to figure out exactly what led to the shooting.

They say the two men found in the car were an uncle and his nephew. Both had gunshot wounds.

Police say 53-year-old James Joe Thacker was pronounced dead at the scene.

Thacker's nephew, 37-year-old Danny Joe Thacker, was taken to UK Hospital. He was listed in critical condition as of Monday afternoon.

Police say just before 6 p.m. Sunday, they got a call from a driver on U.S. 25 in the southern part of Richmond.

The caller reported hearing gunshots while driving by a car, that had pulled off to the side of the road.

When police got to the scene, they say they found two men, both shot once in the head.

Richmond Police say they still have many unanswered questions.

"At this point, we're trying to determine whether it's a murder-suicide or a double suicide," Richmond Police Major Robert Mott said. "We've got one weapon that we've recovered and we're trying to determine how it was used."

Both men have previously been booked in the Madison County Detention Center.

Jail records show Danny Thacker was most recently charged with theft by unlawful taking and unlawful transaction with a minor.

Records show James Thacker was most recently charged with theft by unlawful taking.

The car the men were found in has since been impounded by police as evidence.

Richmond Police say they do not believe anyone else was involved in the shooting. They say they are not looking for any suspects.
