MADISON COUNTY, Ky. - WKYT has a traffic alert for exits on the Interstate in Madison County, starting today and ending next Monday.
Several ramp closures begin today on I-75 in Madison County. The State Highway Department confirms the closures will happen periodically until next Monday, possibly as late as next Friday.
The "on" and "off" ramps of Exit 87 and 95, both northbound and southbound, will be closed from 9:00AM to 3:00PM over the next week or two.
The northbound "on" ramp at Exit 90 will also be blocked.
Transportation officials say the closures are needed for milling,re-striping and resurfacing work.
Some local business owners in Madison County fear the scheduled the scheduled ramp closures could affect business, especially during peak travel season.
"At least 50-60 percent of my business, maybe more, comes off the interstate," said Jack's BP owner Jack Wyatt.
Wyatt, who's owned and operated Jack's BP for 33 years, says he's never known construction to close down so many on and off ramps in such a short period of time.
With scheduled ramp closures on both the north and southbound side of exit 87, the exit his store is off of, he says he's worried it will affect his bottom line.
"The closest they can go, is go down to Duncannon Lane, get off, come back 25, which is under construction by the state also, and then come all the way back to me? No, of course not. People go where it's convenient," Wyatt added.
