Police: Man falls through ceiling trying to avoid arrest

RICHMOND, Ky. (WKYT) - On Thursday, Richmond Police charged 19-year old Cody A. Shelton for several offenses, after they say he attempted to avoid apprehension for a parole violation.

On Wednesday, at approximately 9:44 P.M., patrol officers went to Shelton's residence to serve a parole violation warrant on him. Upon gaining entry into the apartment, officers discovered that Shelton had entered the attic crawl space. Shelton proceeded across the attic to the adjoining apartment where he fell through the ceiling and ran from the building on foot. Officers were unable to locate him at that time.

Officers later got information that Shelton was at a residence in the 300 block of Overland Drive. At approximately 12:15 A.M., officers arrived at the residence and gained entry. Shelton fled from the home through a rear window, but was promptly captured by officers outside.

Shelton was on parole from a February conviction in Madison County for unlawful possession of items used to make meth.
His parole was revoked on July 11th , because police say he failed to carry out his parole supervision and did not complete treatment for substance abuse.

In addition to the warrant being served on Shelton, he faces new charges of burglary, criminal mischief (two counts) and fleeing and evading (two counts).

Shelton is being held in the Madison County Detention Center.
