Police comb large rural area for missing Berea teen

BEREA, Ky. (WKYT) - Police have ended their search of a rural area where they say a Berea teen was last seen.

State Police, rescue squads and others combed the area Friday afternoon for any sign of a the missing teenager.

18-year-old Brookelyn Farthing hasn't been seen in nearly a week.

Officer Don Evans flew over the search scene off Floyds Branch Road, near Red Lick Road, in Berea earlier Friday afternoon.

State Police tell WKYT they searched around 800 acres Friday.

The search began around 9a.m. State Police say their investigation led them to believe this area near Floyd branch road was the last place Brookelyn Farthing was seen.

The 18-year-old went missing on Saturday. Her step father told WKYT Friday they just want to keep her picture out in the public in the hopes that someone will see her and recognize her or tell them where she may be.

State Police say this is still a missing persons case. They brought out their troopers, cadets and were joined by Madison County EMS. Search dogs were also brought out.

They say this may not be the only area they end up going to.

Kentucky State Trooper Paul Blanton says, "There are some other areas that need to be searched, and as the investigation proceeds we're going to search every area that we believe she may be at."

Police say even if they don't find anything during this search it could be helpful to their investigation as they narrow down and eliminate places where they know she isn't.
