Police ready for snow, traffic at Sweet Sixteen

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) - The winter storm comes as thousands of basketball fans head into Lexington for the high school boy's Sweet 16.

The tournament begins Wednesday at noon at Rupp Arena.

Lexington Police say with the snow and the extra traffic around the city, all drivers should take it easy and allow for extra time for their commute.

Police say they'll have extra officers directing traffic downtown.

"Our traffic plan is very flexible. So if we run into a situation where we're getting traffic backups, or there are several collisions, we have the flexibility to call more people in, to move people around, to direct traffic manually if we need to," said Sherelle Roberts with Lexington Police.

During the Sweet 16, Lexington Police will use the same traffic enforcement plan that's used during UK basketball games and special events at Rupp.
