A man once in the news after surviving a violent attack that killed his girlfriend is now charged with murder himself.
Kentucky State Police say 41-year-old Mitchell Turner killed a man at a home in rural Madison County Monday night.
State police say Turner, and 53-year-old Gary Deaton, spent Monday drinking.
Police say the men ended up in a wooded area off Liza Allen Road, east of Berea. That's where police say they got into a fight and Turner allegedly beat Deaton to death.
Turner's family had no comment on his arrest.
In 2006, two men shot Turner and his girlfriend, Margaret Faye Jackson, during a home invasion.
Jackson was killed and Turner was critically injured.
Police say they don't believe that crime had anything to do with Monday night's violence.
27 NEWSFIRST spoke to Deaton's father. He said he had no idea what Deaton and Turner argued over. He says Deaton's murder has been very hard on his family.
Police say it was Turner's mother who called them about the crime. Police say Turner went to her house after the murder.
Turner is being held at the Madison County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash bond.
He denied our request for an interview.
Police are still waiting on autopsy results to determine exactly how Deaton died.
