Police say test drive turned into car theft

A Richmond woman is accused of taking a car for a test drive and then refusing to give it back.

Workers at the Auto Land on Big Hill Avenue say it was Friday afternoon when 29-year-old Megan Perez came in for a test drive of a Chevy Impala.

After letting those employees copy her driver's license police say she drove away, and kept driving. When a car lot worker saw Perez downtown in the car, police say she refused to return it, and that's when they were called.

"Usually once they're confronted they turn it back over but she continued to drive off. This is a little bit different than most cases," said Major Bob Mott of the Richmond Police.

A Richmond officer spotted her on Berea Road and she was arrested. She's now charged with theft by unlawful taking.
